I Tried TikTok And Made $389 A Year Ago

A real look at how one year old effort on TikTok turned into actual earnings.

A year ago, I decided to try something I had been putting off for a long time. I kept seeing people talk about making money online, especially through TikTok, and part of me was curious. Another part of me thought it was probably overhyped.

Before you start reading more, I have a good news for you:

Lately, I’ve been diving into these weird little online gigs where people are making earnings like $288/day watching TikTok videos, or $256/day for doing writing assistant job on Quora, etc. (yep, seriously!). I’m making money using these ideas as well on a daily basis.

I’ve saved the best ones I found on this page right here in case you ever wanna peek at what’s actually out there. Some of them surprised me big time!

You can see the screenshot down below of the jobs you can choose from:

Still, I had some free time and nothing to lose, so I gave it a shot. I did not go viral. I did not become famous. But I did make $389, and that small win completely changed how I look at making money online.

Here is exactly what happened.

Why I Decided To Try TikTok

At the time, I was not looking for anything serious. I just wanted to test if it was actually possible to earn money from short videos.

I had no experience, no audience, and no idea what I was doing. I was just another beginner scrolling and wondering if any of it was real.

So I made a simple decision. I would post consistently for a few weeks and see what happens.

What I Posted

Instead of overthinking, I kept things simple.

I focused on:

  • Short tips
  • Simple ideas
  • Content people could understand quickly

No fancy editing. No expensive tools. Just basic videos with clear value.

Most of my videos were not perfect, but they were real and consistent.

The First Few Weeks

Nothing happened at first.

  • Low views
  • Almost no engagement
  • Zero income

It felt like I was just posting into nothing. But instead of quitting, I kept going.

After about two weeks, I noticed small changes:

  • A few videos started getting more views
  • Some people started following
  • Comments began to appear

It was not huge, but it was progress.

How I Made The $389

This is the part most people care about.

I did not make money directly from views. Instead, I used simple methods that anyone can try.

1. Affiliate Links

I shared useful products and included links.

Every time someone bought through my link, I earned a small commission.

Even small commissions added up over time.

2. Promoting Simple Services

I offered basic services like:

  • Writing help
  • Small freelance tasks

People who liked my content reached out.

3. Driving Traffic To Platforms

I sent people to platforms like Fiverr where I had simple gigs set up.

This helped me turn viewers into paying clients.

What Actually Worked

Looking back, a few things made the biggest difference.

Consistency

I kept posting even when nothing was happening.

Simplicity

I did not try to be perfect. I focused on clear and helpful content.

Patience

The results were slow at first, but they came.

What Did Not Work

Not everything worked, and that is important to understand.

  • Overthinking content ideas
  • Trying to copy others exactly
  • Expecting fast results

The more I simplified, the better things got.

Was $389 A Lot?

Honestly, no.

But it proved something important.

It showed me that:

  • Making money online is real
  • You do not need a huge audience
  • Small results can grow into bigger ones

That first $389 mattered more than it looks.

What I Would Do Differently

If I started again, I would:

  • Focus on one niche earlier
  • Add clear calls to action
  • Post more consistently from day one
  • Build a simple system for monetization

These small changes could have increased my earnings faster.

Can You Do This Too?

Yes, but you need the right mindset.

You do not need:

  • Thousands of followers
  • Expensive tools
  • Perfect videos

You do need:

  • Consistency
  • Patience
  • A simple plan

Start small and improve as you go.

Making $389 from TikTok was not life changing money, but it was a turning point. It showed me that even beginners can start earning online with simple actions.

If you are thinking about trying it, do not wait for the perfect moment. Start with what you have, stay consistent, and give it time.

That small first result might be the beginning of something much bigger.
