If you love reading, imagine turning that habit into actual cash. I was skeptical when I first heard about it, but yes — there are websites that literally pay you to read and review books.
Before you start reading more, I have a good news for you:
Lately, I’ve been diving into these weird little online gigs where people are making earnings like $175/day replying to comments on Facebook, or $256/day doing writing assistant job on Quora, etc. (yep, seriously!). I’m making money using these ideas as well on a daily basis.

This one is straightforward. They send you free books, and in exchange, you write an honest review. While your first review is unpaid (just to prove you’re legit), after that you can earn $5 to $60 per review.
2. Kirkus Media
If you’re good at writing detailed reviews, Kirkus pays freelancers to review books (usually around 350 words). They focus on both indie and traditional books, and the pay per review can go up to $50+.
3. Booklist
Run by the American Library Association, Booklist hires freelance reviewers to write short reviews for upcoming books. They usually pay $15 per review, and it’s perfect if you want steady gigs.
4. The U.S. Review of Books
This is one of the most popular book review platforms. You’ll be assigned books, and once you write a structured review, you can earn anywhere from $25–$75 depending on the project.
5. Women’s Review of Books
This site is geared toward feminist writing and works by women authors. They don’t just pay for reviews but also for essays and literary criticism. A review here can bring you $100–$200 if accepted.
6. Reedsy Discovery
Reedsy is well-known among authors, and their Discovery platform pays reviewers to share honest takes on new indie books. Payments are typically $50–$100 per review, and your work gets seen by thousands of readers.
7. Upwork & Fiverr (Freelance Marketplaces)
Yes, people actually hire book reviewers on freelancing platforms! I’ve seen authors pay $20–$100 per book review, especially if you can leave reviews on Amazon or Goodreads.
Reading for fun is great — but getting paid to do it from your couch? Even better. If you enjoy writing and can put your thoughts into a few paragraphs, you could easily make a nice side income reviewing books.
My advice: Start with Online Book Club or Reedsy, then branch out into freelancing gigs where the pay is higher. The more you review, the faster you’ll get — and the more you’ll earn.
