When I first started looking for side jobs, I wasn’t aiming for some glamorous career move. I just wanted something that would actually pay me for my time.
Before you start reading more, I have a good news for you:
Lately, I’ve been diving into these weird little online gigs where people are making earnings like $175/day replying to comments on Facebook, or $256/day doing writing assistant job on Quora, etc. (yep, seriously!). I’m making money using these ideas as well on a daily basis.

You know that feeling when you work hours on end and the paycheck barely covers dinner and gas?
Yeah, been there. That’s why I started hunting for high-paying side jobs. And guess what — they’re out there. In fact, some of them pay more than $50 an hour.
Now, don’t get me wrong. These aren’t “sit back and do nothing” jobs. They take effort, sometimes skill, and a little persistence.
But if you’re willing to put in the work, these side hustles can pay really well — and way better than your typical $10/hour grind.
Here are 9 side jobs I’ve either tried myself or seen friends crush that pay over $50 per hour:
1. Freelance Writing
When I first landed a writing gig, I couldn’t believe someone would pay me $75 for a single blog post.
If you enjoy putting words together (and maybe have a coffee addiction like me ☕), freelance writing can easily cross the $50/hour mark once you’re in the groove.
2. Tutoring
If you’re good at math, science, or even English, tutoring can pay surprisingly well.
I tutored a high school student in English literature once, and his parents happily paid $60 per hour. I think I learned more about Shakespeare that semester than I ever did in school 😂.
3. Graphic Design
Even with basic tools like Canva or Photoshop, clients pay well for good design. I once made a simple logo for a small business and got $100 for it.
Took me about an hour, which felt like highway robbery — in the best way.
4. Consulting
Got skills in business, marketing, or tech? You can consult for individuals or small companies.
A friend of mine charges $100/hour for marketing advice, and businesses gladly pay because it saves them time (and mistakes).
5. Photography
Good photographers don’t come cheap. I dabbled in event photography, and one wedding gig paid me $400 for a few hours of work.
My feet were killing me afterward, but my wallet was happy 📸.
6. Coding & Web Development
Learning coding was one of the best decisions I made. Even small web fixes can bring in $50–$100/hour.
The first time someone paid me $150 to fix their WordPress site, I was shocked — it took me less than two hours.
7. Public Speaking or Coaching
If you’re confident and can share knowledge, coaching or speaking gigs can pay really well. I gave a small workshop once and got $250 for a 3-hour session.
Imagine getting paid just to talk about something you already know. Not bad at all.
8. Online Course Creation
People love learning online, and they’ll pay for it.
I created a small digital course once, and while it didn’t make me rich, I averaged more than $50/hour when I factored in the time spent.
Plus, it keeps selling even when I’m not working — which feels like magic.
9. Voiceover Work
I didn’t try this myself, but a friend with a great voice started doing voiceovers for YouTube channels and ads. He made $75 for a 30-minute read.
Every time I hear his voice, I can’t help but think he should be narrating documentaries.
The idea that you have to grind away for low wages is outdated. There are so many side jobs today that pay well if you’re willing to dive in.
For me, finding those over-$50/hour gigs gave me breathing room, confidence, and let’s be honest — money for a few extra coffees and treats.
So if you’re tired of working hard for too little, give one of these a try. Who knows? You might just discover that your “side job” ends up paying more than your main one 💸.
